Painting A Day - September 2016 Painting Series

During the month of September I'm making a painting a day based on the prompts from Augustwren's Class on Creativebug. I've really enjoyed the accountability the challenge gives me. It's also been an important reminder that I improve and progress if I really stick to practicing consistently. Below are a few of my favorites. You can also visit this page or follow me on instagram to see my paintings for the rest of the month!

Back to School Season Backpack

Even though I'm not in school anymore and I do prefer summer to fall, it's hard not to get caught up in some of the fun back-to-school projects. This summer, I helped instruct Gather Here's kids' sewing and fiber camps. During the last week, the kids made some fabulous looking backpacks and I had to have one of my own!

I went all out polka dots for these photos. The dress is my Mesa dress which I made for my Wardrobe Project.

Pattern: Unknown.. from the archives at Gather Here!

Fabric: exterior is Moda Mochi Dots in Putty, interior is a pale pink quilting weight cotton from my stash.

Alterations: I top-stitched the straps, which the pattern didn't call for but I think top-stitching often gives a more finished, professional look.
